Overview

Many students with selective mutism make gains speaking one-to-one with trusted adults, yet struggle to generalize those skills to classroom & beyond. This engaging, evidence-based, training equips school teams with consistent, scalable strategies—through modeled interventions & guided practice—to build brave voice muscles, support measurable progress, & expanded communication across environments.

Target Audience

Any school staff member or private practitioners who will be serving as the “keyworker” (i.e. brave voice helper) for a student with selective mutism. Frequent staff members for this role include; private mental health practitioners, private practice SLPs, special educators, case managers, speech language pathologists, SLAs, school counselors, school social workers, and school psychologists. This is a helpful training for staff who have taken a previous training as well as staff who are new to the brave voice journey.

Learner Objectives

  • Describe a fade-in
  • Explain how and why to break a given brave step into smaller components
  • Illuminate the importance of data-based monthly progress monitoring
  • Elucidate when medication may be a necessary part of your student’s plan
  • Defend why brave voice interventions are critically important

Successful completion of these outcomes will be determined via a five question self-assessment.

Continuing Education Information

In order to earn a certificate of completion, learners will be expected to;

  • be present for the entire presentation
    • sign in and out
  • answer a five question self-assessment by 2/10/26
    • Partial credit is not available for this course
    • No credit is available for self-assessments submitted after 2/10/26
