Selective Mutism 101
Understanding SM in the Educational Setting
This course is intended to help school-based SLPs and SLAs begin to deepen their understanding of the needs of students with selective mutism. Attendees will learn what SM is and what it isn’t, deepen their awareness of the inner experience of a student who has SM, and develop an increased understanding of eligibility and school-based supports for this population.

The SLP’s Toolbox for Treating Selective Mutism (SM)
This course seeks to empower school-based SLPs to successfully treat students with selective mutism using an integrated team approach. The support process & Brave Voice hierarchy will be demystified. The techniques Stimulus Fading & Shaping will demonstrated to offer SLPs take-away tools. The importance of working as a team will be emphasized & disability awareness related to SM will be explored.

When registering and paying for courses, some of your personally identifiable information is gathered, including your name, address, email, and credit card number, if you chose to pay online.
Your email address is used to provide you with registration and follow-up information regarding the course. If you choose to have your CEUs shared with the ASHA registry, your name, ASHA ID, email, and address on file with ASHA are shared with the ASHA registry.
If you choose to pay online, your credit card information is entered into Square at your time of payment. Square is PCI-Compliant and takes measures to protect your Privacy. All of the ways Square stores and uses your data is shared within their privacy policy.
The team at Our Brave Voices protects participant privacy by:
- Using a PCI-Compliant online payment system
- Using Site Lock to create a secure website for visitors
- Keeping all records pertaining attendees within the cloud provided by Kilpatrick IT Solutions
- Maintaining cyber breech insurance to cover any losses that an attendee may incur due to an unanticipated cyber breech
